Immunization and Tuberculosis Screening Policy
Tuberculosis Screening
To ensure a healthy campus and to comply with Missouri state law applicable to institutions of higher education (R.S.Mo. 199.290), all students who attend class on campus must complete a Tuberculosis (TB) screening questionnaire through the Maryville University Wellness Portal prior to the start of a student’s academic program.
If a TB screen indicates a student is at an increased risk for actual or potential exposure to TB, the student will be required to receive a blood test for TB. Additional screening is recommended after a known exposure to TB disease or annually.
Additionally, students enrolled in the education or health profession programs and participating in clinical or practicum programs must provide written proof of a negative TB Test each year. TB Testing is available through LabCorp (several locations available). The Maryville Student Health Clinic will write the order for the blood test. The blood test itself occurs off campus, and payment is required at the time of the test.
Failure to complete the TB screening or provide written proof of a negative TB test may result in the University excluding a student from classes, University housing, and other curricular and co-curricular activities.
Positive TB blood tests must be followed up by the following:
- A chest x-ray to negate the positive test finding.
- Maryville has a partnership with the St. Louis Health Department. Students may receive free treatment Thursdays from 9am-12noon at the chest clinic, 6121 North Hanley Road, Berkeley, MO 63134.
o For more information go to: https://stlouiscountymo.gov/st-louis-county-departments/public-health/tb-chest-clinic/
o Appointments can be made by calling 314-615-1631.- Students must go to the chest clinic for the first appointment.
- Medication and follow-up screenings (4-month protocol) are available free of charge through the St. Louis Health Department.

If a student returns home or travels to a high-risk country outside of the United States during their time as a student (e.g., winter break, summer, etc.), a new TB test must be obtained. This includes domestic students who are studying abroad. An annual/additional test is not required if the student stays in the United States.

Outbreak of A Contagious Disease
In the event of an outbreak of a contagious disease, where a vaccine is available, any student without proof of required immunization may not be allowed to attend class or other University activities until proof of immunizations has been produced or the period of contagious risk has expired as determined by health officials. This could jeopardize a student’s ability to participate in course required activities as well as clubs, athletics, and other University activities.
